Investing in Your Skin

Article by Sofia Perez

It’s 2019, and skincare has made a tremendous mark in the beauty industry. More and more people are starting to realize how important taking care of our skin is— after all, it’s a huge factor that determines how our makeup is going to look! On top of that, countless women and men have turned to makeup to improve the look of their skin.

As shocking as this may sound, wearing foundation (especially on a daily basis) is pretty unhealthy for your skin. It leads to wrinkles, aging, and potential acne, as you aren’t really allowing your skin to breathe. Not only that, but the application is a whole other ordeal. If you’re applying foundation with a brush rather than a sponge, for example, you are repeatedly pulling and tugging at your skin. This will eventually result in sagging.

Personally, I’m not a fan of wearing a foundation that I know isn’t doing anything for my skin besides potentially clogging my pores and causing wrinkles (and I’m sure you can relate). Of course, going bare-faced on the daily is ideal, but the reality is that foundation is a must at times. If you have found yourself looking for a foundation that won’t set your skincare efforts back a billion steps, you’re in the right place. From a skincare enthusiast, here are some foundations you will absolutely love:

1. IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

The foundation I’m sure everyone has already heard of— The It Cosmetics CC+ Cream! Even though it is advertised as a CC Cream, this product acts as a foundation because of its medium to full coverage. Apart from providing natural coverage, this gem leaves a glowy and radiant finish on the skin. It is infused with a hydrating anti-aging serum, antioxidants, peptides, hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, and niacin. AKA, all of the things your skin loves and needs! Shop this CC Cream at Ulta or Sephora.

2. Becca Skin Love Weightless Blur Foundation

Becca is another brand that loves to put skincare before makeup. Their Skin Love foundation is said to feel like a “second skin” rather than a cakey face of makeup. Skin Love foundation’s formula is infused with Becca’s Glow Nectar Brightening Complex. This Complex contains a mixture of bitter ginger, cold-pressed avocado, and melon blend. These ingredients soothe the skin as well as brighten it and moisturize it. This foundation is available at Sephora.

3. PUR Love Your Selfie Foundation

Foundation and concealer in one bottle? Yes, please! The PUR foundation has everything anybody could ever want in a foundation. It is infused with a Ceretin Complex, as well as an Energy Complex made from green tea, ginseng, and vitamin B. These all work to even out your complexion. Aside from helping the inside of your skin, it also helps on the outside. Even more, this product protects skin from blue light! It really doesn’t get better than that. You can purchase this foundation from the PUR website.

4. Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup

This foundation is a little on the pricier side, but it is so worth investing in! Hourglass’s oil-free foundation smoothes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This A+ product has SPF 15, is long-lasting, and includes a Matrix Regeneration Complex to stimulate the skin. It is said to be “an extension of your skincare regimen, with a natural finish to feel like second skin.” Shop the Hourglass foundation at the Sephora nearest you!

5. Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation

Josie Maran is known for the inclusion of argan oil in her products. Argan oil is one of the most beneficial ingredients that you can treat your face to. If your skin type is oily, it might be easy to think, “I’m already so oily, there’s no way I’m putting more oil onto my face!”

Well, reader, this oil works to reduce… oil. Weird, right? This foundation’s formula with argan oil helps to corrects signs of aging, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, evens skin tone, and doesn’t clog pores! We’re a fan, Josie Maran. Shop this line at Sephora.

While we turn to foundation (even the fabulous 5 we just discussed) to conceal those dark circles and cover up those pesky, stress-caused breakouts, it’s still so important to take a break every now and then. Let it be known: when I can, I spend the day bare-faced. Letting your skin breathe and soak in some much-needed treatment is necessary.

Do yourself a favor and treat your skin.
