Solving The Podcast Dilemma: Our Recs
There’s no doubt that the podcast movement has changed our society as we know it. Due to the overwhelming number of additions to the market, it can be challenging to decide which ones are worth the listen and which ones will waste your precious time. So without further ado, here are 10 podcasts geared towards young adults that will keep you well informed and entertained:
These episodes offer a wide range of languages available for your at-home learning. To add to their appeal, each episode length equals to that of a coffee break. Clever name, right? We think so! These podcasts aren’t overbearing, and a great way to accompany your language studies.
iHeartRadio has a vast podcast collection, including an entire subsection devoted to podcasts about “stuff.” In Stuff You Should Know, this award-winning podcast explores fascinating topics about the world around us, while diving into some of the most weird and unknown mysteries. It’s like listening to an encyclopedia, but with a fun twist.
VIEWS with David Dobrik and Jason Nash
A podcast with People’s Sexiest Heartthrob as its host! Yes, David Dobrik beat the Harry Styles for that honor. But this podcast is solely for entertainment purposes, and it boasts over one million downloads per episode. (Caution: don’t listen to David’s shenanigans around your grandparents).
This show is a spinoff of Stephen Dubner’s book, Freakonomics. It analyzes current socio economic issues and breaks them down in a comprehensible and easy-to-understand manner. Let’s just say the discussions can be best described as Economics For Dummies-meets-modern day problems in need of a solution. With 15 million monthly global downloads, it is hard not to mention this respected and informative podcast giant.
Dave Ramsey is a household name, and your parents have probably listened to him on the radio or read one of his books. He is a personal finance coach keeping up with the times and is now sharing his wisdom through podcasts! When it comes to building an emergency fund, getting out of debt, and generally handling personal finance, there is no one better.
While the travel podcast Far Flung lacks massive ratings and an audience to match, it is backed by the company, TED Talk. Host Saleem Reshamwala allows for listeners to escape their daily lives and envision their environment as if they are physically at the described destination. It is a great way to plan for your next vacation, or learn more about a culture that is different from yours.
Women Who Travel addresses the reality of what it’s like to travel as a woman in this day and age. Hosts Lale Arikoglu and Meredith Carey allow for a peace of mind as they dissect common issues and how a woman can prepare to travel. Millennials and Generation Z, in particular, tend to have high aspirations in their personal travel goals, so this podcast is a must.
Radically Honest and Before We Make It
A-Line Magazine consists of many talented creators, and our very own Co-founders Emma Garza and Dasom Lee have recently tried their hand at hosting a podcast! They share their experiences and relatable advice in Before We Make It for those striving to conquer “adulting.” Additionally, Dasom hosts Radically Honest, a podcast devoted to uncovering the lives of influencers, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
Maybe 40-minute podcasts aren’t your forte, or your walk to class is less than 15 minutes. Well, this podcast gives you bite-size insights on areas in your life that can improve. Big wait-until-the-last-minute type of gal? Find the five episodes of "How to Overcome Procrastination." And please—don’t put off listening to this show (just to never get to it later)!
Of course, there are many more podcasts beyond those mentioned that are worth your time, but this list is compiled of thought-provoking hits that will hopefully intrigue you enough to listen to an episode. Even better, all of these podcasts are available for free on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
