As of March 2021, the United States has spent one full year affected by COVID-19. When we reflect on the major changes that have taken place throughout this time, a major increase of popularity has been seen in the drive-in movie business in comparison to traditional movie theaters that were temporarily closed. As many around the world were forced to adjust their lives to a more COVID-conscious lifestyle, a large shift was seen in how the entertainment industry stayed afloat. In Texas alone, there are still 18 drive-in theaters running. Prominent in the ‘50s, their popularity declined when movie theaters came into play several years later. Regardless, these novel attractions provide a unique cinematic experience that simply can’t be recreated anywhere else. Here are four nearby drive-in movie locations around this area of Texas that will reignite your love for going out to see a movie instead of queuing one up on your laptop:

Finding a drive-in around the Bryan-College Station area can be difficult. Going to a regular theater during a pandemic can be even harder. Fortunately, on March 24th, 2021, TAMUCouncils & AggieCinema are hosting a drive-in movie event from 6:00-9:00 pm to allow Aggies—on and off-campus—to enjoy a good, old-fashioned movie night. The Best Little Drive-In in HTX

Centered around the Houston area, “The Best Little Drive-In in HTX” has tickets starting around 30 dollars and allows moviegoers to experience a COVID-safe movie night with loved ones. With refreshments and the comfort of watching the newest releases from your own car, “The Best Little Drive-In in HTX” is the perfect Friday night date idea.
Coyote Drive-In & Canteen

Calling all DFW and surrounding area residents: this one's for you. The Coyote Drive-In and Canteen is a family-friendly location that opens its doors at 6:00 pm, “rain or shine” 7 days a week. Ticket pricing starts at $8 for adults (12 years and up), $5 for kids (5-11), and free admission for chidren 4 years and under. With an up-to-date website and app (Coyote Drive-In), this location goes above and beyond to keep their customers informed with upcoming shows, times, and the menu for their onsite dining experience: the Canteen.
Redland Movie Theatre
Location: 4478 US Highway 59, Lufkin, TX 75901
Although this location is in the process of being completely renovated, this is not a spot to let pass you by. Built in the 1950s, Redland Theatre has recently been purchased by new owners and is scheduled to open its gates to the public on Memorial Day 2021. This drive-in theatre is going to bring some classic vibes to the 21st century and you won’t want to miss it.
With the limitations brought by COVID-19, the thought of watching a movie away from your living room couch seems like a distant memory. However, with the revival of drive-in movie theatres, this gem of the past becomes a reality once again. These are only a few of the many locations within the great state of Texas. Thanks to drive-in movie theaters, we can once again get out of our homes and into a safe setting for the viewing experience we have all missed.
