Em’s Eats

Last school year, my sorority held most of our events and chapter meetings over Zoom—including our week dedicated to promoting wellness and health. As we have a chairwoman for everything, our REAL Wellness Chair took charge of this event and provided great tips that truly help pursue a healthy lifestyle.

Our chairwoman showed us how to make yummy recipes like peanut butter protein balls and brownie granola. She made the brownie granola step by step with the entire chapter of 300 members. Little did I know that this woman would go on to have her own baking business. No wonder she was so good at this baking thing!

Emily Hubble is a hardworking Mays Business student setting her sights on accounting. Outside of school, she is the founder of Em’s Eats. As she is a great example of a college student and business owner, I asked her some questions regarding her business and interests.

Em’s Eats is a cottage bakery run by Emily herself. She started out selling her homemade sourdough, but now also sells flavored butter and specialty cookies. As someone who has had her sourdough, specialty butter, and specialty cookies, just know you can’t go wrong with anything you order from Miss Emily!

Emily founded Em’s Eats because she shared her sourdough with her friends and was encouraged to sell it because of how good it was! Emily paired her passion with practicality and monetized her interest. “I love baking and I wanted to be able to make some extra money while in school."

It is not much of a surprise, but Emily’s favorite good to bake is sourdough bread. She says this is because “it’s so satisfying to work so hard for a [single] loaf of bread. It also makes my house smell so good!”

It can be tough managing a business as a young adult. There’s also those ‘small’ things like school, work, and a social life to worry about. How does Emily manage to do all of this and more? She laughs at this big feat and tells me, “one very practical thing is to make a to-do list every day.”

I asked Emily for advice dedicated to young business owners. A true motivator, she wonderfully said “Don’t give up! If you’re really passionate about your business, keep cultivating it. Let your passion drive you and don’t forget why you started!”

Lastly, I asked Emily her favorite celebrity baker. For fans of The Great British Bake Off and The Great American Holiday Baking Show, you can probably relate to her answer. It’s none other than Paul Hollywood!

Emily hopes to someday have a storefront where she can sell sourdough bread and cookies all day, every day! In the meantime, check out Em’s Eats Instagram and place your order for pickup!
