Say Hi to Khy
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Kylie Jenner announced her newest business venture, Khy. Unveiling the brand by posting a picture of herself in a black leather trench coat with the caption “Meet Khy,” this brand is meant to be a more affordable version of faux leather clothing items, therefore making it more accessible to all buyers. According to the Khy Website, “Khy aims to redefine the modern wardrobe by offering edited collections that seamlessly blend luxury with everyday style, spanning a diverse range of categories and styles. By collaborating with iconic brands and global designers, we hope that Khy will be a platform that delivers access to incredible fashion for everyone.”
Khy’s first drop appears to have pulled some inspiration from Kylie's “King Kylie Era,” which produced a more punk-esque style. The clothing from this drop consists of many faux leather items, such as a cropped hooded jacket, strapless mini dress, trench coat, and more. There are also several non-faux leather items, including a baby tee, leggings, mock neck, and moto gloves. Khy’s Seamless Baby Tee is the least expensive item from the drop, coming in at $48, with the Faux Leather Trench Coat being the highest-priced item at $198. The faux leather items are made with 100% PU leather and 100% polyester lining, while the nylon items are made with 90% Nylon and 10% Spandex. Could this pose new competition for her sister Kim’s brand, Skims?
For drop 001, Kylie collaborated with Namilia Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl, owners of the brand Namilia. Founded in 2015, Namilia’s brand can be described as rave-type, gender-neutral “clubwear,” with products heavily influenced by leather, silver, and black, strappy items. Kylie’s collaboration with Namilia is very apparent in Namilia’s drop 001, which includes lots of faux-leather, skin-tight products with black and silver accents.
So far, Khy’s first launch has been a huge success, with most of the products selling out almost instantly., Furthermore, most reviews of the brand have been very positive, with influencers and regular buyers alike expressing admiration for the snatched waist look and comfortability of the products.
Kylie recently announced her second launch, which will drop on November 15. This collection will include winter items such as puffer coats, cargo pants, long-sleeve bodysuits, puffer vests, and catsuits and will feature three different colorways: stone, cobalt blue, and black. This release will also be done in collaboration with Entire Studios, a brand that is familiar with working with the Kardashian-Jenner family due to their previous work with Kanye West’s brand, Yeezy. The prices in this drop are around the same as the products in drop 001. The highest-priced item in Drop 002 is the long Puffer Coat, at $198. The Sculpted Puffer Jacket comes in at $138, the Standard Puffer Jacket is $128, the Cropped Puffer Jacket is priced at $118, and the Puffer Vest is the lowest-priced puffer item at $98. For the cotton items, the catsuit is priced at $82, the long-sleeve bodysuit is $52, and the baby tee is $42.
Ultimately, while it is likely that Kylie will continue to drop new items, it will be interesting to see if new sets are released consecutively or if she will take a break. Since many of Khy’s products appear to be seasonal, summer swimwear or new spring styles may be on the horizon for this brand. There is also the question of whether or not Khy will rival that of brands such as Skims and Good American or if Kim will continue to rule the Kardashian-Jenner family brand.
