Sip and Study

As the first round of exams comes to a close and midterms creep up on college students, the time to study is now. Some like to work out to get their juices flowing, while others maintain a steady stream of caffeine. But, is there such a thing as too much coffee? Not according to Gen-Z! Instead, Texas A&M University students provided great recommendations for the best coffee shops in the Bryan-College Station area. Think envious Seattle coffee shop latte art, but less than 5 miles from your front door.

Dutch Bros Coffee

When Dutch Bros first arrived in College Station, students were late to class because the line wrapped around the shop! Has it died down since? Just a little. Fortunately, there are more locations that have opened for this coffee chain, which helps alleviate the problem. What makes this ‘mainstream’ coffee shop superior and so noteworthy? The employees. They play great music and seem to be having the time of their lives serving those in need of a pick me up. Sophomore Grace Brownfield says the Dutch Bros environment encourages laughs, funny stories, and quality time with others. Grace recommends the “Iced Golden Eagle” and describes the first sip as “smooth and relaxing.”

The Village in Downtown Bryan

Mary Trantham, a sophomore coffee connoisseur, describes her regular order of smooth Vanilla Latte as not too sweet, and not too strong, as she grasps the fittingly perfect and homey mug that holds her drink. The latte art is careful and precise, yet not cliche. The ambiance of The Village invites adults in search of a business meeting location, college students looking for a cram session, and those who want a wholesome tea time with their grandma. The Village is not located on campus, but makes for a great 15 minute trip and a stroll through downtown Bryan. “It is as if each cup is made with love,” beams Mary.

POV Coffee House

Business major Grace Lewis says POV is her coffee spot of choice in Bryan-College Station. Why? Nothing can beat nature. Pair fall weather with a lake and pavilion and you’ve got a calming environment perfect for studying. Not only is the coffee house itself an aesthetic appeal to every coffee lover, but the coffee is just as great. Grace says “A Hot Sunset” is her favorite drink from POV and that it tastes like a hug. Pretty sure Olaf from Frozen would endorse that drink.

Sweet Eugene’s House of Java

Lance Torno, senior engineering major and cadet in the Corps of Cadets, affirms coffee is what keeps him alive! Sweet Eugene’s provides him with an atmosphere of “good vibes and good coffee”. The calming energy certainly lets coffee drinkers immerse themselves in a place where they are free to chat, study, and caffeinate to their heart’s desire. As Lance sips his “White Chocolate Mocha'', ready to master his homework, he can’t help but feel as though he is in a Friends episode. The furniture, decorations, and baristas are full of life— Rachel Green would be envious of these friendly coworkers! The best part of Sweet Eugene’s? An assortment of donuts, kolache, muffins, croissants, and cakes that are the perfect pairing with your cup of coffee.

Coffee. Some like it hot, some like it cold. Regardless of the temperature, a coffee shop can make one feel at home as they sip their daily cup of joe. Try out these coffee shops and see if Texas A&M students have good taste!
